One of the oldest contracting companies in Iceland

Loftorka Reykjavík has operated continuously since 1962. The company specialises in earthworks, street construction and asphalt paving.

Loftorka began as a plant hire business with air compressors, but larger works soon followed, such as laying district heating pipes in new neighbourhoods in the Reykjavík area. Since then, few neighbourhoods have been built in the capital area without Loftorka Reykjavík taking part in some way.

In cooperation with other companies, the firm has taken part in building harbours and hydroelectric stations, and road construction projects have been carried out around the country.

1962
Loftorka is founded
Loftorka was founded as a partnership by the couple Sigurður Sigurðsson and Sæunn Andrésdóttir together with the couple Konráð Andrésson and Margrét Björnsdóttir. Sæunn and Konráð were siblings. The company began as a plant hire business with air compressors, but larger works soon followed, among them district heating pipelines for new neighbourhoods in the Reykjavík area.
1973
Hlaðprýði hf. acquired
Loftorka acquired the asphalt company Hlaðprýði hf. Asphalt paving has been a large and growing part of the business ever since.
From the 1980s
Operations begin in Borgarnes
Operations began in Borgarnes. Sigurður Sigurðsson ran day-to-day operations in Reykjavík, while Konráð Andrésson, resident in Borgarnes, ran the operation there.
From the 2000s
The company is divided
The company was divided into two independent companies, one in Reykjavík and one in Borgarnes. The place names were added to the Loftorka name to distinguish them. The companies are entirely separate in both ownership and operation.
2017
A new generation takes over
At the beginning of 2017 the brothers Ari Sigurðsson and Andrés Sigurðsson, together with their wives Anna Ólafsdóttir Björnsson and Hjördís Jóna Gísladóttir, bought Loftorka Reykjavík ehf. The decision was made to continue running the company unchanged, and that is how it has been run since.
2022
60th anniversary
The company celebrated its 60th anniversary with staff and guests at Miðhraun 10.
2026
VÍS prevention award
Loftorka Reykjavík received the VÍS prevention award in March 2026. The award goes to companies that have excelled in systematic accident-prevention work.
